Hi, I'm Melisa owner of Dahlia Haven!
Dahlia Haven began in 2020 during a season of life when I needed something to nurture.
After walking through more than seven years of secondary infertility, while simultaneously supporting my husband through 5 years of PA school, I found myself returning to something that had always brought me comfort — growing flowers.
Flowers have been woven into my life since childhood. My grandma grew a long row of dinner-plate dahlias along the edge of her garden for many years. She shared a few tubers with me but I lost them in storage the second year and decided they were too complicated to try again! :) My aunt had a greenhouse nearby and would let me help start seeds. I can still remember the smell of soil and the quiet excitement of watching tiny seedlings emerge. She always gave me the leftover packs of flowers at the end of spring and my mom gave me a corner of her vegetable garden to grow them.
That love never left.
At 17, I began working at a greenhouse and landscape center. I loved learning lots about perennials, shrubs and seed starting while there for 4 seasons.
Later, after getting married, I poured my energy into growing vegetables and fruit. But I missed the beauty of flowers.
When my husband and I purchased land in the country in 2019 and began building a small homestead, I finally had space to grow what I loved most. I stumbled across flower farming and knew almost instantly that I needed flower therapy in my life. I spent that winter learning everything I could, and in the spring of 2020, I started seeds and opened a small flower shack at the end of our lane.
Sharing those blooms — and seeing how they brightened someone’s day — filled my heart in a way I didn’t expect.
After the birth of our daughter, I scaled back for two years to be fully present in those early days of motherhood. She's now four and loves to help start seeds and harvest flowers!
In 2025, Dahlia Haven began growing again with more dahlias, a peony patch, and additional annuals and perennials. I also began experimenting with dahlia hybridizing and am hooked! I have several 2nd & 3rd year seedlings and plans to start lots of seeds again this year!
In 2026, we’re excited to welcome tulips and ranunculus to bring beautiful spring flowers to our community.
Today we grow:
- Tulips, ranunculus, and peonies in the spring
- Cutflower plant plugs for May pickup
- Summer annuals for bouquets, DIY buckets, and bouquet bars
- Hundreds of dahlias in the fall
- Dahlia tubers available in late winter
We use organic practices whenever possible and grow intentionally to support pollinators and healthy soil.
Dahlia Haven exists to grow beautiful flowers and share them with our local community — spreading a little more joy, one bouquet at a time.
Thankyou for supporting our small farm and being a part of our story!
